Earth Day is here again and while some sustainable and eco-friendly practices have been easy to fold into our daily routines, there have been others that are a little trickier! Buying a more energy efficient light bulb is a cakewalk compared to finding shoes made from non-toxic materials by sustainable manufacturing processes. At Jenzy, we are focused on finding shoes that are not only healthy for your child’s foot growth, but also healthy for the planet. Below we’ve selected a few of our favorite brands that use eco-friendly materials and are consciously manufactured.
Livie & Luca
Livie & Luca has committed to incorporating sustainable and eco-friendly practices into many aspects of their shoe-making process. All Livie & Luca shoes are hand made from lead-free leather, non-toxic glue, and with no harmful chemicals in the leather tanning process. Furthermore, they have 2 vegan lines that are cute and comfortable: the Carta II mary jane and the Hayes sneaker.
Aside from the shoes, all of their boxes are made from 50% recycled paper and non-toxic glue. Livie & Luca also partners with various charities to donate 10% of their online sales to charities such as KaBOOM! and Changing the Face of Beauty.
Tip Toey Joey
Tip Toey Joey’s shoes are designed, tested, and manufactured at their original factory in São Paulo, Brazil. Aside from maintaining a responsible manufacturing process and using eco-friendly and sustainable materials, Tip Toey Joey is also committed to sustaining a healthy community for those they employ.
Poco Nido was recently GOTS (The Global Organic Textile Standard) certified, which means all of their apparel and footwear are crafted from organic materials. Their non fabric shoes for tots are made from rubber which is more eco-friendly, flexible, and retains heat more effectively than PVC versions used in other brands.
Keen creates durable adult and kid shoes and in the industry, is a pioneer in reducing the environmental impact of their manufacturing processes. Aside from various volunteer efforts around the world, Keen works with core sustainability partners including the Outdoor Industry Association, Sustainable Apparel Coalition, and the European Outdoor Group.
We hope you enjoy the Spring weather this Earth day and take a moment to update your child’s wardrobe with an earth friendly pair of shoes, or two!
